A letter from our Board of Directors

March 27, 2020

Dear loyal alumni, members, staff, volunteers, family and friends,

For over 40 years your Corps has operated to provide young people with a creative and life-changing experience. The current Spirit of Atlanta team – members, staff, volunteers, and board of directors are some of the most remarkable, passionate, and dedicated individuals you can imagine. 2020 was poised to be an exciting year for all of us. Building on our growing success, we were so anxious to see and hear what this talented Corps and 2020 season would bring.

As you can imagine, the announcement of the cancellation of the 2020 tour brings disappointment and creates immediate challenges. Our success in the 2021 season and beyond depends on the steps we take now. Our future remains bright, but we are going to have to work together and be more focused than ever as we navigate this unprecedented challenge. Corp Director Chris Moore and his team are already working on how they will keep current members and staff involved even as the season has changed so drastically. Members are our highest priority and we will take care of them and keep them engaged during this crisis. Our desire is to help Spirit of Atlanta adapt, stay close and connected, and remain as performance ready as possible.

The good news is that Spirit of Atlanta can survive this. However, without the ability to tour, the financial situation (that we have worked so hard to improve over the past five years) will be impacted. Although cut drastically, expenses will remain throughout 2020 if we are to deliver the mission and product we expect in the years to follow this crisis.

Many of you have already asked how you can help. So, envision the company front. We have to line up, “horns to the box” and give it all we’ve got. Because we know how deeply you care about Spirit of Atlanta and drum corps, here are three things you can do right now:

1) Contribute. Strengthen the Delta Group. Go to https://spiritofatlanta.org/deltagroup/ to set up a recurring gift for any amount you can, or a one-time donation for the amount you would have spent on a ticket or a whole trip to a show. We are thrilled to announce that a great friend of our organization has agreed to a challenge gift. This family will match dollar for dollar every gift up to $5,000 that comes in between now and June 21! Your investment in Spirit of Atlanta means more than ever because it can be doubled between NOW and June 21.

2) Stay engaged through social media and directly with alumni and corps friends. We are always better together and will be providing as many ways to communicate, interact, and even gather (when we are able).

3) Let us know if you have resources or contacts that you think might be helpful to Spirit of Atlanta. Support and sponsorships are building but we are always open to more

We know so many people are facing significant challenges now. This is a time to keep everything and everyone you love at the forefront. We are thankful for your love and loyalty and appreciate all you do to keep Spirit of Atlanta going strong.

Take care and be well.

We look forward to seeing you at a post crisis event very soon!
