Meet the 2020 Brass Team

Spirit of Atlanta is excited to introduce the talented educators who will be leading our brass program for the upcoming 2020 season.

We welcome to his new role of Brass Caption Head Daniel Scott.  Now in his 5th year with Spirit of Atlanta, Daniel is eager to get to work with the 44th edition of the corps as the Brass Caption Head. Daniel was a graduate of Western Carolina University where he received a BM in Trombone Performance and a minor in Bassoon, as well as a BS.Ed with a minor in psychology. Daniel is currently the Director of Bands at Swansboro High School in Swansboro, NC. In a little under 4 years, Daniel has increased the size of the program by 150% and created a culture of excellence.  In 2019 Daniel was named the Swansboro High School Teacher of the Year and most recently was named the 2019-20 Onslow County Teacher of the Year for his school district. Daniel has worked with numerous award-winning programs across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, and was a performing member of The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. He is a member of the National Association for Music Educators, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity INC. In addition to the outdoor sector, Daniel was the Music Director for the WGI Open Class Winds Group, Carolina Gold Winds, which won the silver medal at the 2016 WGI World Championship.


Daniel Roebuck enters his 5th year on Spirit of Atlanta’s staff serving as Assistant Caption Head. Daniel is an alumnus of Spirit of Atlanta, Madison Scouts and the Cavaliers, where he was a trumpet soloist for all three corps. A graduate of JSU and Ole Miss, he is currently a freelance trumpet player and educator from Memphis to Mobile while living in Oxford, MS.




He will be joined by Garrett Coscolluela who returns for his third season with Spirit of Atlanta, serving as an assistant caption head in 2020. Garrett holds a degree from Austin Peay State University (BM Trombone) and is a current MM trombone student at University of Central Arkansas. He has previously had opportunities to instruct, choreograph, and design for band and color guard programs in Tennessee and Kentucky and continues work from his current residence in Conway, AR. Garrett began his drum corps career with the Phantom Regiment and went on to age out with the Concord Blue Devils.



Freddy Martin will again serve in the role of Caption Supervisor.  Mr. Martin attended Jacksonville State University in Alabama where he received the Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education., with post-graduate work at Georgia State University. Mr. Martin is celebrating his 48th year in education with a resume that includes  South Cobb High School in Cobb County Georgia,  Spirit of Atlanta,  Buford City Schools in Buford Georgia, and presently at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta.  Mr. Martin is the founding director of Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps and continues to serve the Corps today as director emeritus. Mr. Martin was the Brass Coordinator for the DCI Champion Phantom Regiment Drum Corps from Rockford Illinois. Since 2014 Mr. Martin has been pedagogy coordinator for the Cavaliers Drum Corps from Rosemont Illinois. Mr. Martin is a member of the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame and Phi Beta Mu professional music fraternity.


Andy Poor is excited to return for his fifth season with Spirit of Atlanta, and 34th for year in the activity. He will be serving as the Caption Supervisor along with Freddy Martin and together they will oversee and guide the brass staff in 2020. Dr. Poor holds degrees from the University of Florida (BME’88), and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (MM Trumpet ‘93, DME ‘99). He is currently the Director of Bands at South Forsyth Middle School in Cumming, Georgia, where there are 481 students enrolled in the band program, which has quickly earned a regional and national reputation for musical excellence. His involvement in the marching arts dates back to the 80’s as a member of Suncoast Sound for six season. From 1991-2008, Dr. Poor served as an adjudicator for Drum Corps International and was the Brass Caption Lead Judge from 2000-2005. After judging DCI World Championship Finals in 2008, he began to consult and instruct with various drum corps, including the Blue Stars, Phantom Regiment, Pacific Crest, and the past four years as Brass Caption Head at the Spirit of Atlanta.

Nate Morris begins his third season on brass staff with Spirit of Atlanta in the role of Ensemble Specialist.  He is the Assistant Director and Director of Percussion for the Marine Drum & Bugle Corps based in Washington, D.C. Nate was a marching and staff member of the Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps, and a member of Music City Mystique. He won the 1998 BOA championship while at Lassiter High School, the 2004 PASIC championship while at Middle Tennessee and the 2006 WGI championship with Music City Mystique. He holds a bachelors in Organizational Communications and is currently studying for his masters in Strategic Leadership at St. Bonaventure University.
