Spirit Returns

“Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the field, from Atlanta, Georgia…Spirit of Atlanta!”

How exciting would this be to hear again?  With that thought in mind, Spirit of Atlanta would like to provide an update on our organization and the 2021 season.

First, the mission of Spirit of Atlanta is to provide youth with opportunities to develop and refine artistic, athletic, performance, and personal skills through positive, high-quality, and challenging arts education programs that emphasize character building, a strong work ethic, teamwork, and the pursuit of performance excellence.

Dedicated to our mission, Spirit of Atlanta is proud to announce that we are fully committed to providing live programming when safe, and will participate in the recently announced DCI events in August 2021. As always, the health and safety of our members, staff, and volunteers is our first priority. Therefore, our primary focus is to monitor developments with the pandemic, working closely with our medical advisors. The Spirit of Atlanta Medical Team is creating important and necessary guidelines that adhere to and in many cases exceed all state and local safety protocols.

True to our mission, Spirit of Atlanta plans to offer an amazing experience for our members this season, thanks to our outstanding design and educational staff who are developing content that will continue to challenge and excite them and entertain and amaze audiences. After the cancellation of the 2020 tour, the organization immediately went to work and continued to offer meaningful programming to our contracted members. The Corps has also stayed in touch with members offering a listening ear and support during this difficult time.

It was already in our vision to continue this for our new members in 2021. In addition to the events scheduled in Indianapolis, we will pursue as many opportunities for our members to perform as possible. Spirit of Atlanta will perform at our annual Forward March event and there may be additional performances scheduled within our geographic region.

The “Let it Be YOU” pedagogy packets are available now at spiritofatlanta.org/2021LetItBeU and virtual auditions will soon be announced as we eagerly establish our 2021 program and schedule. The corps will make preparations for in-person rehearsals in late Spring as safety protocols allow.

Spirit of Atlanta is excited to be able to provide this bridge to the 2022 season for our members, alumni, and fans. We also support all of the other drum corps and DCI as we all navigate this unique, yet temporary, time. Thank you to the Spirit of Atlanta family, friends, and sponsors for continuing to stay connected and for providing time and resources that keep our mission strong and allow creative and innovative solutions until we can get back to the field again.
