Our commitment to the health, safety and well-being of our performers
The safety and well-being of our performers and staff are our top priority. We are constantly evaluating and improving our safety program to ensure that everyone can enjoy their experience with Spirit of Atlanta in a safe and healthy environment. In 2022, SoA leadership, along with assistance from DCI and several member corps and industry experts from outside the activity, set out to build a best-in-class safety program to address safety, health, and wellness issues.
SpiritSAFE was developed and deployed in the 2023 season. The program aligns with the organization’s newly created core values and addresses topics ranging from sexual harassment, bullying, and other forms of inappropriate behavior.
Some of the features of the program include:
-
Intensive, in-person training programs for all staff, volunteers, and performers to identify and set boundaries for conduct within the organization
-
A series of new policies and procedures outlining specifics on acceptable conduct and how to respond to health & safety issues
-
A new reporting system for performers, staff, and volunteers to anonymously report incidents or violations of corps policies
-
Intensive background and reference checks for every staff member and volunteer
-
US SafeSport training and certification now required for all staff and volunteers.
Below you will find several documents for download, including our new Performer Conduct Handbook, Safe Interactions Policy Handbook for Adults in leadership positions, and a series of policy documents covering everything from food safety to bus protocols, substance use, and our tiered reporting system.
For prospective performers, we encourage you to read these documents with your parents/guardians and review the conduct expectations before arriving for your first audition. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out at spiritsafe@spiritdrumcorps.org.
