Volunteers are the lifeblood of Spirit of Atlanta

Thank you for considering giving time to the Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps for the 2022 season. Your presence in our organization is vital to our success both on and off the field, and we are so excited to have you join us this season. We rely on our volunteers to feed, clothe, transport, and care for our corps members and staff. Without your help we cannot do what we do.

This amazing experience leads to memories and friendships that you will treasure for the rest of your life. You will have been part of one of the most significant things that our members will have done in their young lives.

What does a volunteer with Spirit of Atlanta do?

The following is a list of some of the primary jobs done by volunteers. There will be times that we will ask volunteers to help in other areas, whether it be painting props, cleaning dishes, cleaning uniforms, or taking out trash. Be ready to jump in and help wherever needed in order to help make this season a success.

Kitchen Crew

  • Volunteers help prep, serve, and clean up all meals for the corps, volunteers, and staff. In order to serve upward of 200 people four meals a day throughout Spring Training and our Summer Tour, our kitchen contains the heartbeat of our organization, housed in a 53-foot trailer, pulled by a semi. It’s a place where food is prepared and served, but it’s also where the group congregates, socializes, receives care, and feels the feels of home when on the road. We have a head chef and other cooks who do most of the cooking, so you do not have to be able to cook to help in the food truck. The food truck is a great place to hang out with some pretty amazing people and to get to see your favorite Spirit member four times a day as they go through the food line.

  • Volunteers drive Spirit of Atlanta’s vehicles that aren’t buses or tractor-trailer rigs while on tour. We need people who are comfortable driving vans with up to 15 passengers or pickup trucks with trailers. Much of this driving is done at night. We also need reserve drivers for shuttle runs and errands throughout the day while on tour to allow the nighttime drivers a chance to get some well-deserved rest.

Uniform Crew

  • Uniform volunteers sew, make alterations, organize uniform pieces, and make sure all uniforms are clean and in good repair. Sewing experience is a requirement for alterations and repairs but volunteers without sewing experience are welcome to help with laundry and organization tasks. A majority of our sewing needs will be at their highest during spring training when we receive and need to alter costumes for the show.

  • Help us prepare for tour by building and painting props, and making upgrades and repairs to the Spirit fleet. No engineering or construction background is required. Construction primarily occurs during Winter Camps and Spring Training.

Covid-19 Vaccination

  • This year, we are asking that anyone involved with the 2022 season be fully vaccinated against the Covid–19 virus in order to maintain the sanitary bubble we are trying to create. You will need to show proof of your vaccination upon check-in with our Tour Operations Team. Please reach out to us at volunteers@spiritdrumcorps.org with any questions or concerns.
